Treatment Information - Surgical Oncology

Surgical oncology is the oldest treatment for cancer and it remains a key component in the care of patients living with cancer. Surgical treatment together with medical and/or radiation oncology are the mainstays of cancer care. Depending on the type of cancer, surgery can occur before or after chemotherapy and/or radiation, or in the middle of another treatment like chemotherapy.

The stage and location of the tumor and the overall health of the patient determine the type of surgery that will be most beneficial and effective. A surgeon will discuss the surgery that is appropriate for your type and stage of cancer as well as the risks and benefits of the surgery.

The Cancer Center works with surgeons in the area to ensure the best possible care for our patients.
