The Cancer Center of Santa Barbara with Sansum Clinic proudly provides Patient Navigation services in order to assist patients on the journey to live with, through, and beyond cancer. Our Patient Navigators educate patients and their families and coordinate consistent care as a liaison between individual patients and the various healthcare providers required for proper diagnosis, treatment, and disease management.
Navigators assist cancer patients and their families by:
Breast Cancer Navigators: Breast Care Navigators work with the Cancer Center, Sansum Clinic’s multidisciplinary medical teams, and other oncology providers in our community to collaboratively design a comprehensive care plan for breast patients. For questions about breast health or assisting patients undergoing diagnosis or treatment for breast cancer, the nurse navigator may help schedule appointments, understand test results, and support informed decision-making about the treatment plan.
Head and Neck Navigators: Head and Neck Nurse Navigators work with the Cancer Center, Sansum Clinic’s multidisciplinary medical teams, and other oncology providers in our community to collaboratively design a comprehensive care plan for patients with head and neck cancers. Because head and neck cancers frequently involve chemotherapy and radiation therapy, coordinating care and scheduling that meets patient care needs can be complex. The nurse navigator coordinates appointments, educates and supports patients and families throughout treatment.
Gynecological Navigators: Gynecological Nurse navigators educate patients and families and coordinate care to schedule timely and efficient appointments within different treatment locations. For patients newly diagnosed with gynecologic cancer, the nurse navigator serves as an information resource to help them understand their diagnosis and treatment options, what to expect during treatment, and support informed decision-making about treatment plan.
