Santa Barbara International Marathon

On Sunday, December 6th, more than thirty men and women took to the streets of Santa Barbara to run the inaugural Santa Barbara Marathon as members of the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara Team. These individuals were running not only for themselves, but also to support the programs and services offered by the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara.

The Cancer Center has provided Santa Barbara with extraordinary cancer treatment and care for 60 years. An independent, non-profit treatment facility, the Cancer Center cares for both inpatients at the hospital and outpatients who make up the largest segment of cancer care. Being able to stay focused on cancer and centered on the patient has allowed the Cancer Center to grow into one of the strongest outpatient treatment centers on the west coast by way of technology and experienced medical staff.

In addition to treating members of the community, the Cancer Center also offers a Support Services program that provides counseling, home visits, relaxation/stress management, and a host of other amenities. The Wellness department offers more than 60 classes every month – from yoga and tai chi to art therapy and poetry to the internationally recognized Cancer Well-Fit Exercise Program. Through the Research department local residents are able to participate in the latest clinical trials offered by National Cancer Institute cooperative groups evaluating the efficacy of cancer treatment as well as enhancing their quality of life.
