If you had a dying wish, what would it be? In the advanced stages of ALS, Michael Orchowski had one last wish - to have an exhibition of his work “which would expose many others to my joie de vivre in spite of this strong infirmity.” “Painting Toward Grace,” is the realization of that vision. 33 Jewels at El Paseo, in conjunction with Dream Foundation and Cancer Center of Santa Barbara's Wellness Department, is honored to invite the public to join us at this very special “1st Thursday” opening, Thursday, December 1, 2011. Michael’s originals and some giclée editions will be available, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Dream Foundation and Cancer Center of Santa Barbara's Wellness Program.
Entirely paralyzed on his right side, and only able to use his non-dominate left hand, Michael strives to express himself in “joyful colors, with my right brain and my left hand. The colors which I applied in the various paintings are happy and express my positive outlook towards life.”
This is a rare opportunity to have one’s mere presence and appreciation become a thing of grace and fill the heart of a man facing death. 33 Jewels at El Paseo owner, Diane Garmendia hopes that “people will fill the gallery with the same kind of love that Michael exudes in his daily life, and expresses in his paintings.”
Wine, beer and light refreshments will be served.
