Breast Cancer Patient Navigator
Tammy Stockero, R.N., O.C.N., Breast Cancer Patient Navigator, serves as a liaison between individual patients and the various healthcare providers required for proper diagnosis, treatment, and disease management. Serving as a consistent care coordinator throughout a breast cancer patient’s experience - from breast health education and prevention, to diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship - she assists patients in a variety of ways, including:
- explaining medical and cancer information;
- helping to schedule and keep medical appointments;
- arranging follow-up care;
- coordinating and streamlining insurance needs; and
identifying local resources and appropriate support.
In order to ensure that our community’s delivery of breast care services is as comprehensive and coordinated as possible, Santa Barbara Breast Cancer Alliance (SBBCA) was established. A breast center “without walls,” SBBCA is a collaboration among several community breast care providers and was recently accredited by the National Program for Breast Centers. Cancer Center was proud to provide leadership in this accreditation process.
