Caregiver Resources
The Cancer Center of Santa Barbara understands that cancer impacts not only the patient, but also the family and friends of the patient. So we offer a variety of services geared toward the cancer caregiver, including a caregiver class, and various information and support resources.
Strength for Caring- Caregiver Class
In recognizing the importance of caring for a loved one with cancer, the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara offers a class for the family caregiver. The class, “Strength for Caring,” is an educational support program designed to prepare family and friends for this important role.
Family caregivers learn skills necessary to provide care to a loved one at home with cancer (specifically, how to better manage pain, fatigue, nausea and other symptoms). Family caregivers have the opportunity to experience mutual support from other family caregivers.
Strength for Caring is offered quarterly and is facilitated by an oncology nurse and a social worker.
Caregiver Information Packet
A comprehensive Caregiver Packet of information for the family or friend cancer caregiver is available free of charge. The packet contains many resources such as home care, financial & disability information, online caregiver websites, and articles on communication and problem-solving.
Cancer Caregiver Support
The Support Services Department offers guidance and support to cancer caregivers by office visit or telephone. To make an appointment please call (805) 682-7300 or toll free at (877) 755-7300.
